Heading to Boston this summer? If you love music, there are quite a few concerts lined up in the city during the months of August and September. There are also a variety of musical events lined up for the summer, from concerts and musicals by local artists to special concerts by well known bands from across the country. If you have a vacation planned to Boston during the next two months, here is a list of concerts you might want to attend.
Boston Public Library Courtyard Concerts
One of the most beautiful spaces for a concert, the courtyard of the Boston Public Library will be filled with music lovers for free concerts every Wednesday from 6 pm to 7 pm. Artists performing here include NJ based songwriter Susan Cattaneo (on July 30), Massachusetts Indie band Darlingside (on August 6), Brazil’s songwriter and singer Fernando Holz Band (on August 20), and Ron Murphy with his band (on August 27).
Cambridge Jazz Festival
Be a part of the first annual Cambridge Jazz Festival at the University Park Commons in Sidney Street this August. The 6-hour event includes performances by local and national jazz artists including Terri Lyne Carrington, a two-time Grammy winner. You can also enjoy delicious food and drinks from local vendors while enjoying the jazz music. The event will be from 12 to 6 pm, and entry is free for all.
Boston Landmarks Orchestra
Are you a lover of classical music? Then the Boston landmarks Orchestra has a few impressive performances lined up for you this summer. The group is going to perform the Longwood Symphony on July 30, Boston Lyric Opera on Aug 6, African American spiritual music on August 13, Rhapsody in Green on August 20 and O’er the Land of the Free: Bicentennial of The Star-Spangled Banner on August 27. All events will be held at the DCR Hatch Shell at David G Muger Way. Admission is free for all.
Performances at the Wilbur Theatre
If you are a die hard rock fan, you must attend the Bang Your Head Tour With Quiet Riot, featuring artists like Faster Pussycat, Bullet Boys and Gilby Clarke, the former guitarist of Guns ‘N’ Roses. August will see artists and bands like The Manhattan Transfer, The Cult, Human Nature and Tom Bailey of Thompson Twins performing at the Wilbur Theatre. Well known acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke will also be performing on September 18.
Other concerts worth a look
If you have a ear for Indian classical music, there is a concert by renowned table maestro Zakir Hussain, accompanied by vocalist Kumaresh Rajagopalan and his wife, along with renowned veena player, Jayanthi Kumaresh. The concert will be held on October 4 at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University. Four-time Grammy winner Diane Reeves will also be performing in Boston, at the Berklee Performance Center on the 18th of October.
